It is said that the true origin of Epiphany goes back to ancient pagan superstitious rites linked to the seasonal cycles of agriculture. The ancient Romans inherited such rites and continued to celebrate the end of the solar year, a cult that finds its roots in the East. On the twelfth night after the winter solstice, which is the 6th of January, the death and rebirth of Nature was celebrated. On that day of 1994 I came into the world, in Switzerland, with deep and solid southern Italian roots.
Besides my mother’s smile and my father's forehead, I inherited an innate melancholy dictated by a lack that I later discovered to be the one of my emigrant grandparents, and then of my parents, and which I believe to be bound to the insatiable desire to regain one’s origins. This search will forever be part of my artistic creation.
Isabella Giampaolo is an actress-creator, physical theatre performer and visual artist.
She studied hip-hop dance for several years, developing a deep awareness of both her own body and movement. Driven by the artistic vein cultivated in her family, she obtained a diploma in Art and Design at the University for the Creative Arts (Farnham, UK).
After returning from England, she spent one year in Rome, where she studied acting at the European Union Academy of Theatre and Cinema. She later obtained a diploma in Performing Arts at the Canadian College of Performing Arts (Victoria BC, Canada), enjoying the opportunity to perform in the major theatres of the city, and took part in the 29th edition of the Greater Victoria Shakespeare Festival.
After moving back to Ticino, she participated in various theatre, film and dubbing workshops and projects in Switzerland and Italy. Motivated by the desire to find a universal language, she decided to deepen her theatrical studies, with particular attention to physical theatre, by attending and successfully completing the Master course at the Accademia Teatro Dimitri (Verscio, Switzerland) and by taking part in the creation of the international site-specific project “Pokoje/Rooms” with the theatre company Divadlo Continuo (Malovice, Czech Republic).
Isabella is devoted to her personal creations and her performance “MATR.” has been presented in several theatres in Ticino, at the Artorium Festival (Banská Bystrica, Slovakia) and at the Schweizer Künstlerbörse 2023 (Thun).
Her latest creation “E tu chi sei?” is aimed at raising awareness of the issue of dementia, particularly Alzheimer’s, and is supported by the Alzheimer Ticino association and the Fondazione Parco San Rocco of Coldrerio.
Alongside her work as an actress and creator, Isabella teaches physical theatre (Italy, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland) and participates in theatre, radio and film productions.

Dicono che la vera origine dell’Epifania risalga ad antichi riti scaramantici pagani legati ai cicli stagionali dell’agricoltura. Gli antichi Romani ereditarono tali riti e continuarono a celebrare la fine dell’anno solare, culto che affonda le sue radici in Oriente. La dodicesima notte dopo il solstizio invernale, ossia il 6 gennaio, si celebrava la morte e la rinascita della Natura. In quel giorno del 1994 sono venuta al mondo, in Svizzera, con profonde e solide radici del sud Italia.
Oltre al sorriso di mia madre e la fronte di mio padre, ho ereditato un’innata malinconia dettata da una mancanza che ho poi scoperto essere quella dei miei nonni emigranti, e poi dei miei genitori, e che credo essere legata all’insaziabile desiderio di riappropriarsi delle proprie origini. Questa ricerca sarà per sempre parte della mia creazione artistica.
Isabella Giampaolo è un’attrice-creatrice, performer di teatro fisico e artista visiva.
Studia danza hip-hop per molteplici anni, sviluppando una profonda consapevolezza del proprio corpo e del movimento. Spinta dalla vena artistica coltivata in famiglia ottiene un diploma in Arte e Design presso la University for the Creative Arts (Farnham, Regno Unito).

Tornata in Ticino partecipa a diversi laboratori e progetti teatrali, cinematografici e di doppiaggio in Svizzera e in Italia. Stimolata dal desiderio di trovare un linguaggio universale decide di approfondire i suoi studi teatrali, con particolare attenzione verso il teatro fisico, frequentando il corso Master presso l’Accademia Teatro Dimitri (Verscio, Svizzera) e prendendo parte alla creazione del progetto internazionale site-specific “Pokoje/Rooms” con la compagnia di teatro Divadlo Continuo (Malovice, Repubblica Ceca).
Isabella è devota alle sue creazioni personali e il suo spettacolo “MATR.” è stato presentato in molteplici teatri in Ticino, all’Artorium Festival (Banská Bystrica, Slovacchia) e alla Borsa Svizzera degli Spettacoli 2023 (Thun).
La sua ultima creazione “E tu chi sei?” verte a sensibilizzare sulla tematica della demenza, in particolar modo dell’Alzheimer, ed è sostenuta dall'associazione Alzheimer Ticino e dalla Fondazione Parco San Rocco di Coldrerio.
Accanto al suo lavoro di attrice e creatrice, Isabella insegna teatro fisico (Italia, Slovacchia, Spagna, Svizzera) e partecipa a produzioni teatrali, radiofoniche e cinematografiche.
